Spring 2011
Stuyvesant Hall Renovation Begins at Ohio Wesleyan

On May 12th a ground breaking ceremony was held for the start of an extensive renovation to Ohio Wesleyan’s oldest dorm, Stuyvesant Hall.  We are excited to lead the renovation of such a significant and historic building at the University.

Started in the 1920s and finished in the early 1930s, Stuyvesant Hall started as an all women’s dormitory, though it most recently held 255 students in a coed format. The 74,000 square foot classically designed building features many unique elements, including ornate ornamental wood carvings at exterior entrances, copper roofs, and a massive bell tower with chimes. The building also contains numerous common gathering spaces, including rooms known as the Smoker and Rathskeller.

The project will include renovating 74,000 square feet of the existing structure while adding a new south side entrance and courtyard terrace.  Improvements will also be made to incorporate energy efficient heating, cooling and lighting that meet the U.S. Green Building Council standards.  This project is registered with the certification goal of LEED ® Certified.

Concurrently at OWU we will be renovating Hayes Hall.  An all women's dorm, named after the first female student at the University.
